After the win at Gabba, the race to the WTC final for India has become smoother. Also, the postponement of Australia's tour of South Africa would mean that New Zealand will seal a spot in the final. Whereas India still needs a minimum of 70 points out of 120 in the series to play NZ at the Lord's.
DISTRIBUTION OF POINTS IN ICC WTC (4 Match Series)
Win Tie Draw Loss
30 15 10 0
This implies,
A 4-0 3-0 3-1 2-0 2-1 win vs England will make sure India qualifies for the final.
A 1-0 2-2 1-1 0-0 0-1 1-2 0-2 scenario will help Australia get through, and
A 1-3 0-3 0-4 scenario will favor England.
Although chances for England as well as Australia are very slim as it is not easy to defeat India in a Test series at home. The last time a team won 3 matches in a test series in India was 36 years ago. The race for the English team and the Aussues will be quite challenging, nevertheless it will be interesting to watch action-packed cricket in upcoming days!
